How To Balance Life As An Entrepreneur And A Parent
One of the hardest things you will do in life is quit the comfort of your full-time, benefit-providing job to start your new business venture. And, do you want to make it even more difficult? Add a few adorable kids to the mix. It’s the perfect recipe for both a lot of stress and a lot of happiness. While being an entrepreneur and a parent is difficult, it’s also very possible, and people everywhere are doing it every day. To make the job easier, it’s important to keep a few things in mind that will help you achieve balance.
First and foremost, one of the most important lessons I have learned as an entrepreneur and a parent is to be adaptable. Just when you start getting in the swing of taking care of your 2 year old, and your new born, for example, they will change completely, and you’ll have to learn all over again. It’s a never-ending process. The same goes with owning a business. Just when you think you’ve got it right, the market will fluctuate, new competition will emerge, or you’ll be ready to innovate your products for the sake of further growth and success. It’s just part of life and part of business, and the more adaptable you can be, the happier and more successful you will be.
It’s probably not far off to say that the two most important things in your life are your family and your career. But, that doesn’t mean you are not free of other duties like cleaning your house, mowing your lawn, and all that goes with being a grown up. However, one of the best ways to deal with this is to hire help. If you can hire a neighborhood kid to mow your lawn, you can use that time to either make more money or hang out with your babies. If you’re stressed, then hire out some help.
One of the best ways to balance life as a parent and a business owner is to simply get out the calendar every week and plan. Mark times when you need to be at work, and times when your kids have soccer games, dance recitals, and all that jazz. If you plan your time well, you’ll find that you can be both an excellent parent and a successful business owner. If you don’t plan, you may run into multiple scheduling conflicts that leave you stressed and frazzled.
Take It One Day At A Time.
Life throws curve balls all of the time in all different avenues. The best way to deal with life as a parent and entrepreneur is to just take it one day at a time. Make sure you hold tight to important values, but that you also just take baby steps. You’ll be surprised how much you can accomplish by just taking it one day at a time.
