Top 3 Ways to Save Time as a Business Owner

As a small business owner, you know what it’s like to be busy. It probably seems like you are constantly working to balance everything that comes with owning a business, having a family, and sometimes even pursuing an education on top of it all. There never seems to be enough hours in the day, and the only way to get things done seems to be to simply not sleep or to find a way to clone yourself.

Since not sleeping and getting a clone are not realistic options to solve your lack of time problems, it’s important to find other ways to save time. Here are a few ways that will help you maximize your time as a small business owner, and in some instances, save money as well.

1. Streamline your processes

One of the biggest ways to waste time is to manually do tasks over and over that can be streamlined.

For example, if you currently respond to customer e-mails individually, you are wasting precious hours that could be spent elsewhere. Instead of sitting down and typing out an e-mail to every customer, consider investing in an e-mail marketing software like Infusionsoft that will do everything for you. While it’s true that small business owners wear many hats, they don’t have to wear all hats. Again, outsourcing projects will cost money, but if you can make more money by investing your time elsewhere, then outsourcing mundane tasks that take forever to another professional is the way to go.

For example, part of running a successful online business includes maintaining a blog, but you may not have the time and expertise to write a blog post every day. If you can outsource your writing work to a qualified and professional freelance writer, or even hire a content writing company, you’ll be able to spend your time making more money.

Additionally, you can outsource other tasks like HR functions, design work, marketing, and more. Stick to what you know best, and pay for tasks that other professionals can help you with, and you’ll be well on your way to saving time and money.

3. Shorten your To-Do List

It’s possible to get completely carried away with crossing things off a to-do list. In an article published on Entrepreneur.com, it states that, according to Barry Izsak, “a to-do list is nothing but a wish list.” To-do lists can help you develop vision and goals, but sometimes the to-do list needs to be abandoned in order to help you focus on tasks that generate revenue. Of course, you don’t want to abandon your to do list all together. Just don’t let it distract you from what is really important. Accomplish what you must do to survive, pay off small business loans, and make more money, and then let the rest wait.
