The world of self-publishing books has opened the door for many entrepreneurs to share their ideas, and to also make a little extra money on the side. In fact, some entrepreneurs make their living solely by publishing eBooks. Isn’t that amazing? If you are interested in writing and selling an eBook, you will definitely need some help to get started.
To start off, it’s important to understand that there are many different platforms to sell eBooks, but by far the most popular is the Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing platform. Amazon does take a share of your sells, as do all platforms, but the amount of search volume they get makes it worth it. If you are interested in self-publishing a book, here are some tips on how to publish on the Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing platform.
Write & Edit
The first step, of course, is to write and edit your book properly. Remember that Amazon won’t sit down and proofread your book, so you have to make sure it’s perfect, and exactly how you want to publish it before you submit.
Make Sure Your Book Has The Proper Elements
Kindle books should include a title page, a copyright page, and a table of contents. If you so desire, you may also include dedication, preface, a prologue, and any end-notes and appendixes. If you have questions about the title page and copyright page, you can simply quickly consult the amazon guide.
Create An Account
Before you start the process, you will need to create an Amazon KDP account. You can usually use your same e-mail and password as your regular Amazon account, to make it easier. Make sure to fill out your profile completely.
Login And Begin
Once you have created a profile, you should login to your account and visit your Bookshelf. From here you will be able to create a new title. The “Create New Title” section is short and sweet and all you have to do is fill in the details about your book including the name, the rights, and the pricing. Then, you are ready to upload and publish your book.
Upload Your Book And Convert Your Book If Necessary
As soon as your book is ready to go, you will need to convert it to a compatible amazon kindle format. Kindle will allow you to upload your document in any of the following formats:
- Word (DOC or DOCX)
- HTML (ZIP, HTM, or HTML)
- MOBI (MOBI)
- ePub (EPUB)
- Rich Text Format (RTF)
- Plain Text (TXT)
- Adobe PDF (PDF)
- Kindle Package Format (KPF).
Once you have uploaded your document, Kindle will convert the file for you, so that it shows up correctly on the Kindle apps. If you are confused or worried about the uploading and conversion process, you can always hire someone to convert your document for you.
After you have uploaded your book, make sure to upload your book cover.
Press “Publish” and you are done. It really is that easy. Thankfully, the Amazon KDP system is intuitive and easy to use.
